Roadtrip 2016 Fall: Vancouver - Yakima - Bend - John Day River - Port Orford - Florence - Seaside - Vancouver

Day 48 - Oregon Dunes Overlook

We're hoping for a break in the weather by driving over to that glimmer over there. The Suislaw is high from the heavy rains of the past few days.

Emma Brown Sock is ready for some dune action.

The sand conceals.

The wind has worked a little magic.

We are the only people out on this part of the dunes today.

Emma in her elements.

Sand waves. Ocean waves.

The trackless sand erg is awesome. The crazy ATV folks can't get in here.

The recent rains have made these high slipfaces passable. Without that wetness, we wouldn't be able to hike these sidehills and ridges.

That ... was a steep one!!

Emma Sherpa Brown Sock climbs towards the parking lot and summit snacks.

At last, right at dusk, we hit the summit ridge and the main trail.

Racing towards snacks on the manicured path.

From the overlook, a view out to the area we were hiking. The giant sand erg is that little splotch on the centre horizon between the tree islands. The main trail crosses left to right in the foreground.

The final retreat on the slippery boardwalk.
